Los Angeles is known for streetwear.  The warm weather allows for T-shirts to be worn year-round, and the locals relaxed approach to living breeds a host of brands that are able to produce clothes with tongue-in-cheek references.
L.A. is where the beach vibes meet the grit of street culture, and the resulting gear presents some remarkably undeniable swag!
No stranger to streetwear, LA Has served as home to iconic brands like Stüssy, FUCT and UNDEFEATED and American Apparel.  Once known as just a jeans city, the brands that thrive here have expanded this base while still keeping true to the casual cool, quintessentially American vibe that marks California culture. As a proud  So Cal native and new ambassador I’m honored to have interviewed Matthew Bryant- Owner of DM Clothing

What is Don Mateo?
We are a Los Angeles based streetwear brand who is all about expressing love and inciting thought in an artistic way.

How did it start?
I've always been a huge fan of fashion. I wanting to launch my own brand for a few years now, but just did not know where to start. I had all of the initial designs completed but that was really the easy part. I knew nothing about dealing with manufacturers or distributors so a lot of time went into research along with trial and error.

Were you always supported in your endeavors?
With any decision or career path you make in life, you're not going to have 100% support from everybody you know. This was no exception. Not all opinions are equal, but I love those who support me to this day.

What has been your favorite experience since launching ?
I know this sounds cheesy but this whole experience has been great. It's very stressful at times but I can't see myself doing anything else.

What’s a typical day for you?
A typical day for me. First off I'm notorious for sending emails at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning, so usually the first thing I do in the morning is reply to the email responses. Then I check the orders/fulfillment to make sure everything is on time. The rest of the day consists of picking up where I left off the day before, whether that's a graphic design, experimenting with various fabrics or enhancing marketing strategies.

What is the biggest challenge you faced ?
The  biggest challenge I've faced so far was securing a quality manufacture. The process made me realize that money is not as valuable as we tend to think it is. When first starting out I had several of them declined my application stating that I was not established enough. I was not willing to sacrifice quality so I kept trying. I saw why so many people give up on their dreams, but quitting was not an option. My biggest challenge became my biggest accomplishment.

Picture

What’s your audience like?
Don Mateo appeals to fans of the streetwear culture as well as appreciators of art...People who are not afraid to think outside of the box and question things that exist around them.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
Being a newer brand, our main focus right now is to build our fan base and create a presence within the fashion community. So far, we have been moderately successful in doing so via social media and our website, but there's always room for improvement and we look to improve year after year.

Picture
If I could style one celebrity who would it be?
Believe it or not, I would have to say Lady Gaga. I don't know, she just has this dope energy about her and she tends to not be afraid to push the boundaries of fashion. I would put her in one of our "free your heart" cropped hoodies and maybe a pair of high waisted jeans.

Picture

What's your favorite item
My pieces are like children, I love them all "equally."

Picture
What are your favorite quotes?
"To find yourself, think for yourself." - Socrates
"If you believe, you shall achieve" -Panda
Do you have any shows or events coming up?
We may have something going on in LA this upcoming Spring, but that's the sec

Picture
What would you tell anyone doubting themselves trying to pursue the same
Goals ?
Usually the largest hurdle, when it comes to following our dreams, is ourselves. We tend to believe that we are predestined to follow a path that has been set by the environment in which we were raised. If you feel that that path is not for you, then get out of your own way and follow your dreams. You never know, you may just surprise yourself.

Who inspires you?
In the fashion world, I'm inspired by the likes of Virgil Abloh, Rhuigi, Jerry Lorenzo and Pharrell.

This market is so rough some days, that's how I felt like I should introduce myself.

If  you don't know me my name is Briana Deshields and
I am a creative. I produce and create fashion events here in Central Florida & I also write for street fashion magazine. Until recently, I worked at a local modeling agency as a scout, (which I was super excited about because I thought it was the dream job, but turns out I was doing that all along!) I realized this, months after it wasn't providing the mental/financial stimulation (although the staff was great and I am humbled by the opportunity) it was harder than actual work. I started hating what I loved. I felt like a drug dealer slinging photoshoots for a place where I was treated completely expendable, but darn wouldn't it look good on a resume?  Thanks to my good friend ffellow entrepreneur Alana Nelson, she talked some sense into me (seriously, incredible things happen when people believe in you). Eventually, I decided to go my own route with the model wearhouse with the help of Simone Sieto! He was a father of one of the models I scouted for an upcoming fashion show. He asked for my help in rebranding the studio space, offered me a 50/50 partnership and thus the model wearhouse was born! As an aspiring model, I thought I was in the perfect place to start a mini fashion revolution in Orlando! Here's my chance to help my industry!  Well lets face it, people don't think of Orlando when they think of fashion, so with the momentum of the fashion shows, photoshoot outs, interviews ect. I truly believed I was finding my place.
I partnered with another awesome creative, & go getter Jenna Scott. We decided that the modelwearhouse's initial goal was for it to be a photography and modeling studio for aspiring creatives on a budget! Another goal of mine was to take my interviews from digital to live with a set and full crew! I love hearing about the journey and I love supporting those who deserve it! I just wish others would do the same! However, in this moment I find myself at a cross roads.

Picture
First off, I just want to say that I have really great friends that have provided me with tremendous verbal support over the last two years.
I’ll tell you one of the things that caught me off guard with our venture was the lack of support I received from a lot of people I was certain would be enthusiastic and supportive of our project.

In all honesty (excluding several members of my immediate family) some of the most supportive people I’ve encountered were complete strangers I've met online.

I discovered that an inadequate level of support from the people you hang out with is probably an indication that you need to find a new social group that falls inline with your goals. Your good friends will always be your good friends, but constant negativity will gradually seep into your veins and cause you to doubt your current path.

Let’s face it, it’s hard enough as it is to start a business in the first place. You need to be optimistic, you need to be upbeat and you need to have confidence! Ultimately, what is going to get you through it all is persistence.

Once you find the right people, you will know right away because all of a sudden, you’ll feel pumped up! You’ll feel energized and you’ll have someone to consult when things don’t go as planned. Find the right support group and you’ll improve your chances of success!
In any case, I just wanted to end this post by thanking my friends (real and virtual) for being there for me.

A little inspiration

No one ever said it was easy being an entrepreneur. Whether you're in the early stages of your startup, just secured funding for your startup or you are ready for product launch. There will always be those three components when you ask yourself if this whole entrepreneur thing is worth it. Instead of giving up and throwing-in the proverbial white towel, keep your head up and look to the following quotes to inspire and motivate you during those tough patches.
For any struggling entrepreneurs, artists, creatives, models, designers, hustlers this is for you.
"The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” –Nolan Bushnell, entrepreneur.
. "Do. Or do not. There is no try." - Yoda, Jedi Master.
“To any entrepreneur: if you want to do it, do it now. If you don’t, you’re going to regret it.” - Catherine Cook, co-founder of MyYearbook.
“It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.” - Scott Belsky, co-founder of Behance.
“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game's winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life and that's why I succeed.” - Michael Jordan, NBA Hall of Famer.
. “There’s nothing wrong with staying small. You can do big things with a small team.” - Jason Fried, founder of 37signal.
. “Ideas are easy. Implementation is hard.” - Guy Kawasaki, founder of AllTop.
. “If you just work on stuff that you like and you’re passionate about, you don’t have to have a master plan with how things will play out.” - Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook.
. "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now." - Chinese proverb.
“Creativity is the root of entrepreneurship.” – Karndee Leopairote, Thammasat University
“Creativity is not just a skill but an attitude – a rebellious desire to be different.” – Chaipranin Visudhipol, TBWA
“Ideas are at the core of the modern economy.” – Patrick Cohendet, Mosaic HEC Montreal
“The past and the future are shaped by us, keep yourself open for the power of possibility. – Duangrit Bunnag
“Be brave and be open to challenges.” – Justin Farren, Ubisoft
“Questions are both the most powerful and most under-utilised tools for creativity and intellectual activity.” – Peter Cauwelier, Bangkok University
“You contribute to the world by making meaningful things, not just new things.” – Cees DeBont, HongKong Polytechnic University

How long have you been modeling?

    About 5 years.

    Picture

Any basic principles or belief you stand by ?
I always believe everything happens for a reason, not matter what it is.
What's your favorite part of the industry?
The creative freedom! The fact you are able to create a picture and alter it with your body, your look, the pose, etc. I love being able to meet and collaborate with so many talented people.

    Picture
What has been your favorite experience ?
My first runway show. It was for Park Avenue’s Fashion week in Winter Park. The runway was HUGE and long. I was beyond nervous because it was my first real show and I was casted last minute. But once I got up there I felt a rush I will never forget. I knew this is what I wanted to do!

How was home life for you growing up?
It was intense to say the least. I was bullied a lot for the way I looked. My family is from Egypt and having foreign parents made growing up in America a little hard

Were you always supported in your endeavors?
No. My family used to think modeling was not a real “career” and not worth it. They were more focused on me receiving a degree then anything. It is not essentially a bad thing to be educated, but it caused me to delay my dream.

    Picture
    Picture
What has been your biggest achievement?
Being able to finish my Bachelor's degree while working full time and modeling. There was many sleepless nights, a lot of driving, prepping etc. But by the time I finished my degree I had enough pictures to make a full and strong modeling portfolio.

What’s a typical day for you?
I have an typical office job that consumes the majority of my days. Monday -Friday 11-8. After work I work out as much as I can. Then, I watch my favorite shows (Law and ORder SVU, WWE, and of course America's Next Top Model) and play with my 2 cats.

    Picture

What is the biggest challenge you faced in your career
Finding the confidence to put myself out there. Growing up I was beyond self cautious and not comfortable in my own skin. I fought mental illness growing up, and I am still dealing with it today. But I was able to find the strength to get the help I needed. Once I started to believe in myself and my look, I took it and ran.  I have not looked back since.

    Picture
    Any other additional hobbies?
I LOVE arts and crafts, sewing and graphic design.

    What's your favorite quote?
“C'est La Vie” which is french for “That is Life”

If you could have one superpower what would it be?
Flying! So I don't have to drive everywhere

    Picture
If you could shoot with your favorite celebrity who would it be. And what kind of concept?
Bella and Gigi Hadid in a vintage pin-up photo shoot.

    Who is your favorite designer?
    Betsey Johnson

Once act of kindness everyone should follow?
Be kind to others no matter how evil they may be. You do not know the struggle they are currently experiencing.

What would you tell anyone doubting themselves?
If you do not believe in yourself, no one else will. It starts with you!

    Who inspires you?
My mother. She has been through hell and back but is stronger than ever. Her drive inspires me to never give up.

    What are your rates?
Starting at $50 an hour. Rates can vary depending on the type of job!

Editorial Fashion that involve a lot of colors and complexity.

    Picture
    Picture

    Have you faced any challenges?
For me every single photo session is a challenge, because with every single session I am trying my best to outdo my last masterpiece.
But  full disclosure, becoming a successful Photographer in todays market is the biggest challenge, Its always about being passionate and creative, but you have to know your worth.  Today technology has progressed with such a speed that it is hard to keep up and being unique these days!

    Picture

I actually get inspired a lot by fairytale , cartoons or Marvel movies.

    Picture
    Picture

    Aaron "Rusty" Mcneile
Rusty is a multifaceted  photographer whose work has appeared all over Florida. He's Recently pointed his talents to the business world and established himself as a fast growing entrepreneur and top photographer in the bay. Not limited to one niche market, he covers and dominates all aspects of fashion, runway, product, commercial, lifestyle and wedding photography.
Immediately upon my move to Florida I quickly came across his page of vibrantly  unique captures that are so authentic to everyday life. I knew I had to get to know him!  This is one of my favourite interviews to date,  Not only a because i'm interviewing a great friend and fellow hard working entrepreneur and hands down one of my personal favorite photographers  but because I finally found someone who happens to enjoy Joe Rogan rants as  much as I do!

    here a little more to learn about Rusty;

    When did you start photography?

2006, way back in my high school days. They had an after school Film Class. Before my dad passed away, he was big into photography. So I thought I would take it up to earn extra credits, but I immediately fell in love with the whole process.

What do you shoot with now?

My beast known as the Nikon D810

    What’s better editing or shooting?

I love the process of both. I shoot to edited. Before I take a photo, I can already see how I will edit the final image.

    Favorite lenses and why

    The Sogma 85 1.4 or the Nikon 70-200 2.8
I love the Sigma  85mm 1.4 because it obliterates and blues the background and brings all the attention to the subject. At the same time my Nikon 70-200 2.8 is so versatile, and I love the compression from 105mm to 200mm

Arranging my studio with new designs on mannequins.

How was home life for you growing up?

What has been your favorite experience ?
My recent trip to Bahamas where I showcased my collection on a cruise ship.
What is the biggest challenge you faced in your Fashion career?
It is hard to name just one. I have definitely faced challenges in all stages of the process and am still facing some. To name a few - reliable material sourcing. Each challenge has taught me something new about the fashion industry and I am thankful for all the hardships I have faced. But with all the support from my family and friends, each challenge and hardship gets easier.

Do you have any shows or events coming up?
I am planning to attend Trendz Trade show and Barbados fashion week.

Anyone you want to collaborate with in the future?
Future goal is to collaborate with celebrity fashion stylists, Cruise ships, fashion bloggers, stylist to name a few.

What would you tell anyone doubting themselves?
Don’t sit around.  Start moving!  In the beginning you may not go in the direction you dream, but as long as you’re moving, you’re creating possibilities. I started redesigning after spending more than 10 years in IT. If you are passionate about doing something do it now..do not wait for tomorrow.
I love the quote from Richelle E. Goodrich .. ‘You may be the only person left who believes in you, but that’s enough.  It takes the glimmer of just one star to pierce a universe of darkness’.  Never give up on yourself. Encourage yourself, believe in yourself, and love yourself today.  Never doubt who you are.

    Who inspires you?
I am a Mom of three kids. They are my biggest inspiration in everyday life. We travel around the world. People around the world inspire me as well because they are who created the history, society, culture, art and without art, there wouldn’t be any visual representations of the past. I bring out the elements that fascinate me the most while traveling. I recently travelled Greece and I am working on my new collection that is dedicated to Greek culture.
If you could style your favorite celebrity who would it be and what would they wear?
Deepika Padukone - Bollywood / Emma Watson- Hollywood

What's your favorite design of yours?
I love all my designs as I put all my heart and soul in it while designing.

    Any other additional hobbies?
Travel, gardening, following Ayurveda and fitness are some of my hobbies.

    What's your favorite quote?
One should always dress to express - express yourself, your feelings or your mood for the day. - KalaXpress

    I AM BRYAN  T. SNELL

To succeed in the modeling industry today takes skill, hardwork and dedication. Long gone are the days when a tall, toned body and perfectly symmetrical face would guarantee work (let alone, fame). Although perfection is welcomed, cutting edge editorials and magazines are looking for that little bit more edge these days
We have all noticed a real change in the industry and how tattoos and body art are perceived.
Bryans body is somewhat of a living canvas. His perfectly sculpted physique is encapsulated from head to toe with intricate tattoo art
Therefore it comes to no surprise that this  up and coming model is re-writing the rules of fitness modelling, quite literally.

    What's your favorite part?
My favorite part about modeling is observing your talent after you are done with the photo shoot. I also enjoy networking and meeting new talent/people
How was home life for you growing up?
Home life for me growing up was different. Parents got a divorce at a young age and from there it was just me, my mother and my sister. My mom does not drive so that was always a responsibility of mine to get her from point A to point B (which i did not mind). I was an absolute terror in my younger ages, constantly in trouble, getting arrested and getting into fights. Thankfully i changed my life around and eventually found God.

Were you always supported in your endeavors?
My mom is actually the reason i started my modeling career, so yes she has always supported me

What’s a typical day for you?
.A typical day for me consists of casting calls, gym, eating all day, photo shoots and then probably homework unfortunately.
What has been your favorite experience ?
My favorite experience has been the traveling that i get to do since modeling started.
What is the biggest challenge you faced in your career
The biggest challenge i have faced in my career is adjusting to the wants of the industry. Tattoos and piercings only take you so far in my opinion so i have been removing piercings and adjusting accordingly to my goals.

what is your biggest achievement so far? My biggest achievement in modeling so far has been networking and shooting in Atlanta. I also landed a magazine cover last month and that was something crazy. Landing a speaking role in Tyler Perry's show was by far the best thing I have accomplished thus far.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, Isee myself as a main character in a movie. I want to excel and grow as an actor and make worth of my full potential. I will be one of the most known actors and perfect my craft on my way.

Once act of kindness everyone should follow?
The act of kindness everybody should follow is to show generosity and keep giving.
Do you have any shows or events coming up?
Atlanta fashion week is coming up and I submitted to the event so we'll see what happens! Also more castings and calls to come.
    Picture
If you could shoot with your favorite celebrity who would it be. And what kind of concept? If I  could shoot with my favorite celebrity I would probably have to pick Dwayne Johnson. Would love to recreate some fast and the furious styles. I think me and Channing Tatum would do pretty well together too in a shoot for the ladies lol.

What would you tell anyone doubting themselves?
The last thing you can do is doubt yourself in any path you take in life. As Steve Harvey said, "you have to jump and take the leap of faith." In life if you do not jump you will never soar. Keep pushing and be the hardest worker in the room, you will succeed.

-I love them both parts of the photography process. But if I had to choose, I would say shooting. It's truly incredible to have a vision and make it come to life in camera.

    black&white or color?
-it all depends! The subject, the lighting, the mood that I want to convey all play part in determining what's the best version of my final image.

    Favorite lenses and why
-Canon 24-70 2.8 is my ultimate baby. My mind is always racing in regards to how to frame and angle each image. The 24-70 allows me to zoom in for a tight portrait or go wide for a full length shot, without having to worry about how much space I have in order to back up and get the shot I want. Plus! It's so amazingly sharp.
